As of January 2020, an Iraq Certificate of Conformity (COC) is required for over 1000 products across twelve categories before they can enter the lucrative Iraqi market. An Iraq COC can only be issued by an authorized inspection company, of which only four currently exist.
Exporters around the world are taking advantage of Iraq’s demand for imported goods. The country imported $45 billion worth of goods in 2018 and this number is expected to grow in coming years as the country generates wealth from foreign exports and continues its ongoing reconstruction plans. The Iraq COC aims to protect its local consumers, manufacturers, and the environment from counterfeit and substandard products and materials.
